  • 27/2/11 - Thetford Winter Series Round 4: While the rest of the club were out enjoying the Rovers Reliability Trial, the mountain bike boys were giving it their all in Thetford Forest. The trail wizards had set a fiendish course for the last in the series, only 6 miles a lap but woe betide anyone who could not do uphill single track.

First out of the blocks was our intrepid young gun James Bowley. Cheered on as usual by his dad, even his mum made the trek to see what all the fuss was about. After 4 laps of the course James was 6th and an improvement all round on his last outing.

Next up came the VCR rocket Paul Thomas, although at the outset his pace was like the lift off on the space shuttle, he did not have the stamina to maintain his position, having completed 5 laps, Paul finished 12th losing 2 places to a 3 man sprint for the line, however still a good overall performance for the series.

Up next was the Vet Male 40+ with Bob Bardell and Dave Hales competing. Bob's new bike looking resplendant in the morning sun. Although running in the top 40 for most of the race, Bob was unlucky to pass a guy who had a distinct lack of bike handling skills. As Bob passed the guy, he lurched to the right and caused Bob to fall off and hit his face on a tree. The tree was ok but Bob has a fat lip and headache, plus some paint chips from chainslap. He also lost 10-15 places and finished 43rd. Dave Hales finished 86th, which in itself was an improvement on the previous results, but best of all he suceeded in beating the head gremlins who had undermined his efforts in recent weeks.

Sadly one VCR rider made the local press for the wrong reasons, after his front wheel imploded, thankfully without injury.
  • 27/2/11 - VC Revolution had a strong contingent at the Colchester Rovers Reliability Trial with Richard Harvey, Alan Lawrence, Mark Frost, Luke Sikkema, James Kerr and Andy Elderfield all in attendance.
