On Sunday 20th
January, five members of VC Revolution (Billy Bramman,
Paul Thomas, Brett Travers, Richard and Fraser Wood)
travelled to Thetford Forest to compete against 500
other riders in the third round of the Marin Winter
Mountain Bike Series.
The heavy rain in
the week before the race meant that the 7 miles course –
a mix of forest fire roads and single-track paths – was
extremely tough, with some sections turning into deep
bogs, which is unusual for this sand based forest.
All five of VC
Revolution's team rode in the two hour endurance race;
Paul Thomas and Richard Wood both finished in the points
within their respective categories. Travers finished in
the top third after making the elementary mistake of
starting at the back of the race. Bramman, making his
racing debut for the club, and young Fraser Wood, both
crashed a number of times in the slippery conditions,
but clearly enjoyed the challenge.
The final round of
the series at Brandon Country Park on 10th
February will again see a strong representation from
Colchester's newest cycling club.
