Colchester Rovers 2up TT

Sunday 22nd March

On the bright and breezing Sunday morning of 22 March, VCR's Alan Lawrence and Paul Dewberry took part in the Colchester Rovers 2-up Team Time Trial. The event was held around 2 laps [25 miles] of an undulating circuit based around Lt Bentley, Weeley, Tendring and Horseley Cross.

The wind was blowing from the North-West which made the leg across from the start at Lt Bentley to Thorpe-Le-Soken very fast. Lawrence and Dewberry averaged 27mph for the first 7 miles out to Thorpe-Le-Soken.

The average dropped a couple of miles an hour going across to Horseley Cross due to the very stiff North-West wind. Riding very well together the duo made very good progress catching many of the teams that started in front of them.

On completion of lap 1 the duo maintained the fast pace on lap 2 although the wind did start to take its toll going from Thorpe-Le-Soken across to finish line on the outskirts of Gt Bromley. Both riders were finding the conditions pretty tough going over the final few miles and lost a bit of time to team winners Barry McDonald & Jeff Wharton [Interbike RT].

Lawrence and Dewberry finished with a time of 1 hr 03 mins and 12 secs compared to McDonald & Wharton's [Interbike RT] time of 1 hr 02 mins and 57 secs. It was very close and the VCR duo plan on riding a few more of these events over the coming season.
