Colchester Rovers 50 mile Time Trial

Sunday 26 April saw the running of the Colchester Rovers CC open 50 mile time trial on a testing course at Tendring, Essex.

This event, which forms part of the season long SPOCO series is a tough one and saw VCR members Darren Frostick and Paul Dewberry dust of their time trial bikes in earnest.

With a 1hour 53 minute ride to his name Darren was always going to find it hard to get anywhere near that sort of time on this sort of course and over the first half of the ride found it difficult to find his legs. The second half proved more successful and darren finished with a very respectable 2:06:02.

Having not ridden a ’50’ since 2000, this was almost unknown territory for Paul. He decided that riding at 80% of his maximum heart rate would be a good monitor with which to measure his ride though after his ride he felt that perhaps he had held back too much in the early stages. Paul finished with a respectable 2:15:09.

Many top time testers rode this event and the winner on the day was Paul Smith (PCA Ciclos Uno) with a superb 1:51:52.
