Interbike Road Race - Peldon
Sunday 22nd March
VCR’s Andrew Elderfield, Brett
Travers and Ben Wright lined up on Sunday 22 March for
the Interbike Road Race at Peldon, just outside
Colchester.
This event was held over a distance of 75 miles with
Elite, 1st, 2nd and 3rd category riders eligible to
compete.
With a good quality field including former Tour of
Britain King of the Mountains jersey wearer Duncan
Urquart, the pace was high from the start with Andy
managing to find himself involved in some small moves
though, unfortunately, these came to nothing. With an
hour of the race gone, the winning move went away. Andy
suddenly felt that his legs had gone but on closer
inspection it turned out he had broken a spoke which
resulted in the wheel rubbing on his frame. Sadly Andy
had to withdraw from the race due to this mechanical
problem but considering he had been off the bike for 3
weeks, he was pleased with his form.
Ben and Brett rode a quiet race in the bunch with Brett
being the victim of cramp on the final lap but with a
ride back to his parents afterwards, he’d got 90 miles
in his legs in total. Winner of the day was Steve
Lumpier (KUK Kinesis) with Jason White second and Chris
McNamara (Team Corley Cycles / Alpha RC) coming in
third. Former VCR man Joe Skipper was forth. |
