Wattisham Triathlon
Saturday 25th April
VCR second-claim member Terry Smith
competed in the Wattisham Triathlon, north west of
Ipswich on Saturday April 25.
This was Terry’s second Triathlon and this event
consisted of a 300 metre swim, 20 kilometres on the bike
and a 5 kilometre run to finish.
With swimming being the weaker of Terry’s 3 disciplines
he managed a steady effort and came of the water in
159th out of 172 starters though in terms of time this
was a 1 minute 24 second improvement on his previous
event.
Into the transition area, Terry realised he hadn’t put
his running shorts on so it meant the bike and running
had to be done in Speedos ! He soon got down to business
though and started to plough his way through the
competitors who had finished the swim in front of him.
The bike section along Wattisham Airfield was very
blustery and Terry found himself travelling at speeds of
12mph one way and 35mph in the other. He dug in though
and from being positioned 159th at the end of the swim,
ended the bike ride at around 50th place.
On to the run and Terry kept it steady despite feeling
the pain from his efforts. He finished the run in a very
creditable 40th place having not been caught and
finished with a position of 49th overall.
All-in-all, Terry was pleased with his effort and has
made a good improvement on his previous go at Triathlon. |
